Tannery Safeguarding Strategy Validation Workshop

A Tannery Safeguarding Strategy Validation Workshop was held by the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh, a key SMEP consortium partner, on 19 January 2025 at the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) in Dhaka.

Stakeholders from various sectors, including the Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF), a partner in the event, came together to discuss important issues and validate strategies to improve ethical practices in the tannery sector.

The workshop focused on strategies to address child labor and modern slavery, following the three pillars of the UNGPs: Protect, Respect, and Remedy. The importance of including feedback from stakeholders for further improvement was highlighted by Mr. AKM Ashraf Uddin, Executive Director of BLF.

Representatives from DIFE, trade unions, business associations (BTA and BFLLFEA), development partners (GIZ, Solidaridad Network Asia), NGOs (Safety and Rights), and BLF took part in the workshop.
