Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the webinar titled “Safe Spaces, Empowered Voices: Combating Digital Violence Against Women Workers.” The event was organized as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and served as a vital platform to address the growing risks of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) in Bangladesh.
The webinar brought together distinguished speakers from academia, civil society, the private sector, the media, and the development sector. Their diverse expertise provided critical perspectives on how digital violence affects women workers across both formal and informal labour sectors.
The session explored several urgent themes, including:
Emerging patterns of online abuse: cyber harassment, image-based exploitation, stalking, and misinformation.
Impact on women workers: erosion of safety, severe mental health implications, and long-term barriers to economic participation.
Institutional accountability: the need for clearer workplace policies, reporting mechanisms, and gender-responsive digital governance.
Strengthening digital literacy: empowering women workers to navigate online spaces confidently and safely.
Collective action for safer digital ecosystems: collaboration among employers, unions, platforms, and policymakers.
BLF extends sincere appreciation to all panelists for their valuable contributions. Insights from the discussion will support ongoing efforts to strengthen protections for women workers and ensure that digital spaces empower rather than endanger them.
