National Occupational Health and Safety Day -2021 is celebrated at BSCIC Tannery Industrial Estate, Savar, Dhaka
BLF organized the National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2021 and theme was: ‘Pledge of Mujib Year, Safe Work Environment for All’ (Mujib Borsher Ongikar, Nirapad Kormo Poribesh Hok Sobar)’. The program was inaugurated by Md. Abdul Malake, General Secretary of Tannery Workers Union and TWU representatives, female and male workers and NGOs participated in the program. Tannery Workers Union (TWU), with the support of BLF formed a human chain on the day at in front of TWU office, Savar for taking initiatives to improve occupational health protection and safe work environment at workplace of all the workers working in Tannery industries at TIE, Savar area. Tannery workers also demanded the right to freedom of association and the right to organising and collective bargaining under ILO conventions 87 and 98. They also called for the ratification of ILO convention 135 on the protection of workers representatives. Leaders of TWU urged all concerned to maintain health guidelines to ensure
overall health safety of all the citizens including workers and employees. Tannery workers and TWU representatives participated in the human chain.
After human chain a colorful rally and discussion meeting were organized as the key activities of day observation. A total 200 people participated in these events.
