Dialogue on Just Transition & Role of Trade Union in Bangladesh
 
Bangladesh Labour Foundation – BLF has organized a dialogue on JustTransition at the Capital Dhaka. The dialogue was attended by National, Sectoral and Basic Trade Union Leaders of Garments, Textile, Leather, Footwear, Chemical, Metal and others. Civil Society Organization, Development Partners were also participated in the dialogue.
 
Shojib Ahmed, Program Officer of Bangladesh Labour Foundation – BLF placed a presentation on Transition and Bangladesh perspective at the dialogue. A number participants gave their insightful thought during the discussion session. Among others Nazma Akter, Executive Director, Awaj Foundation; Towhidur Rahman, Bangladesh Apparel Worker Federation; Babul Akter, Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Worker Federation; Salauddin Shopon, Bangladesh Revolutionary Garment Workers Federation; Nurul Islam, United federation of Workers, Kamrul Hasan, Akota Garments Workers Federation, Noimur Rahman Jewel, SKOP; China Rahman, IndsutriALL Bangladesh Council, Md Taherul Islam, The Asia Foundation, Feroz Alam, GIZ Bangladesh, Abil Bin Amin, Ethical Trading Initiative were participated in the discussion.
 
The participants emphasized on more intervention from the root level to build awareness among the stakeholders. They also told that the government should include Trade Union and Civil Society for implementing Just Transition. A national level trade union platform is also necessary for ensuring proper benefits and management of just transition.
 
Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) has been working on Just Transition with multisectoral approach with an objective to develop the awareness among the stakeholders. A series of dialogue will take place in upcoming days to uphold this issues to the shareholders level for ensuring the proper rights of the workers in Bangladesh
