Advocacy Meeting for Home Based RMG Workers
An advocacy meeting with Savar Upazila Youth Development officers and representatives was conducted by Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) on February
In commemoration of the World Day for Decent Work, the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment (DIFE) and the Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) have taken a significant stride towards achieving SDG 8. With a resolute focus on SDG 8.7 and the National Plan of Action to Eliminate Child Labour from Keraniganj, a day-long inspection was conducted in the informal Ready-Made Garment (RMG) factories. The primary objective was to promote decent work conditions, aligning with the government’s mandate to eradicate child labor from Keraniganj’s workplace.
A team of 50 inspectors from the Dhaka District office actively participated in the campaign, meticulously inspecting nearly 1000 factories in Keraniganj. The comprehensive inspection aimed to identify, address, and rectify any instances of child labor, ensuring that the workplace aligns with ethical and legal standards.
The campaign emphasized the importance of decent work, highlighting the need for fair labor practices, just wages, and safe working conditions. By targeting SDG 8, the initiative seeks to contribute to the global effort of fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
This inspection marks just the beginning of a sustained effort to eliminate child labor from Keraniganj’s informal RMG sector. The insights gained from the inspection will pave the way for targeted interventions, awareness campaigns, and collaborations with stakeholders to create a workplace free from child exploitation.
As we move forward in our commitment to achieving SDG 8 and eliminating child labor, stay tuned for more updates on the progress, challenges, and collaborative initiatives. Together, we can create a workplace in Keraniganj where every worker, especially children, can experience the dignity and fairness they deserve.
The World Day for Decent Work serves as a catalyst for change in Keraniganj. By coming together to achieve SDG 8, we are not only promoting decent work but also actively working towards eliminating child labor from our community. Let this initiative inspire a wave of positive transformation in Keraniganj’s informal RMG sector. There is more to come, and together, we can make a lasting impact.
