Advocacy Meeting for Home Based RMG Workers

An advocacy meeting with Savar Upazila Youth Development officers and representatives was conducted by Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) on February 6, 2025. This initiative is part of the ongoing project, “Promoting Decent Work and Organizing for Targeted Home-Based RMG Workers (HBRMGWs) Engaged in Formal RMG,” supported by Oxfam GB and funded by the European Union.

During the meeting, an overview of BLF’s initiatives and the project’s core objectives was presented by the Program Coordinator. Key focuses such as ensuring decent working conditions, strengthening workers’ bargaining power, improving occupational safety and health (OSH), reducing gender-based violence (GBV), and fostering leadership skills among HBRMGWs were highlighted. Several major initiatives, including policy development for worker rights and recognition, training programs, awareness campaigns, and a socio-economic study on home-based workers, were also discussed.

Collaboration opportunities were explored, and inputs from the Youth Development Office were invited regarding ways to support the project’s goals and connect with home-based workers. In response, Upazila Youth Development Officer Mr. Rejaul Karim expressed appreciation for BLF’s efforts and reaffirmed the office’s commitment to cooperation. It was shared that various skill development training services are available to support youth, with an assurance that these services would be extended to home-based workers.
