Webinar on An Assessment of the Impact of COVID-19 on Tanneries
Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) participated in a webinar on An Assessment of the Impact of COVID-19 on Tanneries, organised by Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID), Economic Reporters Forum (ERF), and The Asia Foundation.
The Chief Guest of the webinar, Zakia Sultana, Secretary, Ministry of Industries said, as an environmentalist, she knows that failure in solid and liquid waste management of the tannery industry will pose a serious risk to the environment, and thus to future generations. She added that the government is working to resolve the constraints facing the leather estate in Savar and make the effluent treatment plant fully functional. She ensured that the experience of 1st Tannery Industrial Estate (TIE), Savar will definitely be utilized in the 2nd TIE project. To ensure compliance in the tannery sector she assured the highest level of cooperation and urged all to work together in taking this sector forward.
AKM Ashraf Uddin, Executive Director, Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) urged the government to work with all the concerned ministries inclusively to make the tannery sector fully compliant.
