IWD 2026: Trade Union Voices for Safe Workplaces

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) organised a discussion forum in Keraniganj on International Women’s Day 2026 with local women who work in ready-made clothing and leaders of trade unions. The occasion provided a forum for discussion on the pressing need to guarantee women in the industry have secure, equal, and respectable workplaces.

Voices from the Workplace

The everyday realities of workplace discrimination, insecurity, and harassment were highlighted by the experiences and difficulties of women workers and union leaders. The discussion reaffirmed how crucial it is to elevate workers’ opinions in order to create more secure and welcoming workplaces.

Key Messages

To end workplace violence and harassment, ILO Convention 190 must be implemented more strictly.
Gender-based violence (GBV) must be prevented by worker-centered policies, accountability, and proactive measures.
For women employees to have equal opportunities, safety, and dignity, workplaces must be free from violence, harassment, and discrimination.
Gender justice in the apparel industry must be advanced by collective action by employees, unions, employers, and legislators.
