Building Trade Union Capacity for HREDD in Bangladesh’s RMG Supply Chain
Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) organized a training on Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) for trade union, women, and youth leaders from the informal RMG sector to strengthen their capacity in promoting responsible and sustainable supply chains. The training highlighted the importance of including informal workers, particularly those engaged in small workshops and subcontracting units, within the broader RMG supply chain dialogue.
Strengthening Workers’ Voice Through HREDD
The training focused on enhancing trade union leaders’ understanding of HREDD as a practical tool to identify labour rights risks, promote social dialogue, protect workers’ rights, and ensure that workers’ voices are reflected throughout the supply chain. It emphasized that responsible business practices must extend beyond factory boundaries to create safer and more inclusive workplaces.
- Strengthening trade union capacity to engage with HREDD processes and advocate for workers’ rights
- Recognizing informal workers as an important part of the RMG supply chain and ensuring their inclusion
- Promoting stronger social dialogue among workers, employers, and relevant stakeholders to address workplace challenges
- Using HREDD as a tool to identify labour rights risks, improve working conditions, and support sustainable supply chains
- Ensuring that every worker, regardless of workplace setting, has access to decent work, dignity, and protection of rights
Through continued engagement in the informal RMG sector, BLF remains committed to empowering workers, strengthening trade unions, and promoting a future where no worker remains invisible within the supply chain.
