ETI UK Team Field Visit to Savar Tannery Estate

The ETI UK team conducted a field visit on 3 November, 2025 at Savar Tannery Estate, engaging with some factories of different scales along with
Ethical Trading Initiative Bangladesh, Tannery Workers Union (TWU) & Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF)
The visit covered both compliant and non-compliant units to develop a grounded understanding of sectoral realities in the leather industry.

During the visit, the delegation observed production facilities, export operations, and solid waste management systems, while also receiving an update on the progress and field learning from The SMEP Programme. Key discussions focused on supply chain traceability, human rights due diligence (HRDD), transparency, business linkages with European markets, and the growing importance of LWG certification for sustainable trade.

This field engagement offered meaningful insights into the current state of the tannery sector, including improvements in OSH and environmental compliance under The SMEP Programme and reinforced the collective commitment toward sustainable, worker-centered, and responsible leather supply chains.
