Just Climate, Energy & Tech Transition Training
Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) recently organized a transformative training program on Just Climate, Energy & Tech Transition in the RMG sector in Bangladesh
With the growing impact of climate change and automation on workers’ lives, the objective was clear: build the capacity of national and sectoral-level trade union leaders to engage in informed advocacy and ensure that no worker is left behind in the transition.
The training focused on:
- Climate resilience in the RMG sector.
- Workers’ rights in the age of green tech.
- Policy advocacy and union preparedness.
- Inclusive, gender-responsive transition strategies.
Participants: 46 trade union leaders of Savar, Ashulia, Gazipur, Tongi of National and Sectoral Trade Union Federations.
The Just Climate, Energy, and Tech Transition in Bangladesh’s RMG sector aims to ensure that the shift toward sustainability and automation does not come at the cost of workers’ rights and livelihoods. As the industry faces climate risks, rising energy demands, and increasing automation, a just transition calls for eco-friendly production, adoption of renewable energy, and responsible digital transformation—while protecting jobs and ensuring social equity. This involves skilling and reskilling workers, promoting gender inclusion, enhancing social protection, and engaging trade unions in decision-making. Trade unions have a key role in advocating for worker-friendly green policies, monitoring fair practices, and ensuring that transitions are inclusive, equitable, and aligned with climate justice goals.

Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) has distributed emergency food support to hundreds of Informal Local RMG Workers in Keranigong near Dhaka. These workers produces for the local market and mostly work on piece rate basis. Due to COVID 19, the factories were closed all of a sudden and the workers could not make it to go to their home. As maximum part of their wages are kept with the employers, these groups become highly vulnerable to loose their job as well as lost the dues with the employers. BLF strongly demands special incentive for these vulnerable workers as like the export oriented RMG. The food support will continue to others weekly basis।
